The IFCCD was founded in Sevilla on September 19, 2007. It replaced the International Liaison Committee of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity. ILC delegates had participated as observers in the international negotiating sessions which drafted the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, thus ensuring that the voice of cultural professionals was heard during this labour-intensive process.
UKCCD is a founder member and there are now 42 national coalitions for Cultural Diversity bringing together over 600 professional culture organizations representing creators, artists, independent producers, distributors, broadcasters, performers and editors in the publishing, motion picture, television, music, performing arts and visual arts fields.
The International Federation is incorporated in Canada and has its Secretariat in Montreal. The European Coalitions for Cultural Diversity represent the Convention at regional level and the UKCCD is one of 11 coalitions, operating from our base in Brussels.
